Devlog #2 - Mission Control Rework
Hey everyone 👋
Today, I’m excited to talk about a major update coming to Mission Control in Astrumis Survive Together! After some great feedback from players, we’ve reworked the role to provide more engagement and strategy, addressing the concern that Mission Control often felt like they were just waiting around with little to do.
The Old System:
In the original design, Mission Control had the ability to toggle between various cameras freely. Their role was mainly about providing directions to the other player by guiding them through the environment and warning them about incoming monsters. While this was effective for a while, we realized that it left Mission Control feeling like a passive observer, leading to some complaints about limited engagement.
The New System:
Mission Control now has to actively manage power resources in order to access different camera feeds. Rather than simply toggling between cameras at will, players will need to manage a finite amount of Power Cells that are required to activate them. Here’s how it works: 🔋🪫
Power Cells:
Cameras require Power Cells to turn on. Most cameras need just one, but some will require two! Capacity is marked with these small icons. Players must monitor their available Power Cells and decide which cameras are most crucial at any given time.
Drag and Drop:
Power Cells can be moved between cameras by dragging and dropping them. This system allows Mission Control to prioritize cameras based on the needs of the other player, who may be navigating through dangerous environments or avoiding monsters.
Limited Power:
There’s a limited supply of Power Cells across the map, meaning Mission Control will have to make strategic decisions. Should you activate the camera that will help the player avoid a monster right now, or should you prioritize a different one that might help them navigate to a safer location later? Players will need to plan ahead, and sometimes make tough choices, as there simply won’t be enough Power Cells to keep everything running.
What’s Next?
This change will go live with the next patch coming soon! I’ll be closely monitoring how players adapt to this new system, and I am excited to gather more feedback for future updates. Mission Control’s toolkit has been even further expanded, but I don't want reveal everything right away! 😏😏
